Large areas lighting: port of Brindisi

Defined as the “Gateway to the sea” in Roman times, the port of Brindisi is today an important access route to the Balkan peninsula and to Turkey, and therefore a junction to the main tourist destinations. The port is a natural inlet with a branched morphology, divided into three different basins – internal port, middle port and external port – with a total area of several million square meters.
In addition to tourism, Brindisi is also one of the most important commercial and industrial ports on the Adriatic coast, on which the monument to the Italian Sailor stands out, a ship’s wheel-shaped reinforced concrete structure just over 50 meters high and built in the 30s of the last century.

Niteko solution

Niteko illuminated the large area of the tourist port of Brindisi with 500W – 183 Nettuno L floodlights. These kind of fixtures – characterized by integrated adjustable brackets – are ideal for lighting large areas and infrastructures, and provide very high lighting performances.
The Nettuno L floodlights installed in the port of Brindisi are characterized by 4,000 K colour temperature, CRI>70 and customised optics.

The lighting of large port areas requires high luminous fluxes in order to guarantee high levels of visibility and safety.
In particular, the use of fixtures with different lux values has made it possible to diversify the light intensity of the different port areas:

  • 50 lux for the passenger area, to guarantee visibility and safety in the passengers waiting area;
  • 30 lux for the transit area, to meet the different lighting requirements and to guarantee, at the same time, high luminous efficiency

The result is luminous uniformity, increased safety on the platforms and consequent improved perception of the place by transit passengers.
