Research and Development
The R&D Department is the beating heart of NITEKO, the place where innovation and vision are transformed into practical solutions, designed by engineers specialising in electronics, mechanics and automation to anticipate the needs of a constantly evolving market.
Il laboratorio fotometrico
At the heart of our technology workshop, the photometric laboratory enables us to develop bespoke optical solutions in compliance with current regulations. The goniophotometer ensures extremely precise measurements, with data stored in formats compatible with the leading lighting design software packages, enabling rigorous and verifiable design.
A research programme focused on sustainability
The history of the R&D department is one of ongoing research, with sustainability as its constant guiding principle, taking different yet consistent forms over time.
- Light sustainability
In the initial phase, the focus was on energy consumption, photometric performance and the service life of the systems: years of patent development and field trials have made NITEKO the first Italian manufacturer to apply high-power LEDs on an industrial scale in road and urban lighting.
- Sustainability of materials
With LEDs now firmly established as the standard, research has shifted to how a luminaire is made, how long it lasts and what happens to it at the end of its life. Launched in 2018 and completed in 2021, this research LED to the creation of Lorelux, the first brand of lighting fixture made from PSV recycled polymer, certified up to 90%, and 100% recyclable through dedicated supply chains. Protected by Rotoskin® technology and it has been recognised by, amongst others, the ADI Design Index and the iF Design Award.
- Summary of the journey
2026 sees the launch of Tilea, the new die-cast aluminium street lighting fixtures with an original design: a contemporary blend of luminous efficiency, durability, aesthetic identity and functionality, in which every design choice balances performance with environmental responsibility.
